A Tourism Based Regeneration Strategies for Historic City Center of Konya

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to define the problems and potentials of tourism focused urban regeneration process in historic city centre of Konya which have entered the aging process from social, economic and physical aspects and, determine the strategies of regeneration. In this study followed a four-phase method. The first phase is to examine in detail based on field research social, economic and physical fabric of the historic center of Konya. The second phase of the research method is carried the SWOT analysis based on the findings of outfield research. In the third phase is to determine the strategies of regeneration based on the findings obtained. In the fourth phase, the findings of this study were classified according to their degree of priority via the pair wise comparison based on analytic hierarchy process approach. As a result of this study, strengths have been priority identified to regeneration of Konya historic center and, it was followed by the second threats. The findings and the selected strategies within this research will contribute to the planning and implementation process in the future of Konya historic city centre

Konya Tarihi Kent Merkezi İçin Turizm Odaklı Yenileme Stratejileri

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, sosyal, ekonomik ve fiziksel açıdan köhneme sürecine girmiş Konya tarihi kent merkezinin, olası turizm odaklı bir kentsel yenileme sürecine ilişkin sorun ve potansiyellerinin tespit edilmesi ve yenileme stratejilerinin belirlenmesidir. Araştırmada dört aşamalı bir yöntem izlenmiştir. Birincisi, Konya tarihi kent merkezinin sosyal, ekonomik ve fiziki dokusunun saha araştırmasına dayalı olarak ayrıntıda irdelenmesidir. Araştırma yönteminin ikinci aşaması, saha araştırmasında elde edilen bulgulara dayalı olarak SWOT analizinin gerçekleştirilmesidir. Üçüncü aşama ise elde edilen bulgulara dayalı olarak öncelikli kentsel yenileme stratejilerinin belirlenmesidir. Araştırma yönteminin dördüncü aşamasında, analitik hiyerarşi süreci içerisinde ikili karşılaştırma yaklaşımına göre sayısal değerlere dönüştürülen bulgular, öncelik derecelerine göre sınıflandırılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda Konya tarihi kent merkezinin yenilenmesinde; güçlü yönlerin ağırlık kazandığı, bunu ikinci sırada tehditlerin izlediği tespit edilmiştir. Araştırma kapsamında elde edilen bulguların ve seçilen stratejilerin Konya tarihi kent merkezinde geleceğe dönük olası planlama ve uygulama sürecine katkı koyacağı düşünülmektedir
